Sonja Horner

Stoughton- Sonja A. Horner, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton.  She was born on February 20, 1940, the daughter of Sanford and Anna Erickson.  Sonja was a lifelong resident of Stoughton.  She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1958.  After spending several years raising three children she returned to school and earned her LPN degree from MATC.  Sonja worked at Stoughton Hospital for many years, then worked at Skaalen for 22 years until her retirement.  On August 10, 1976 she married W. Dean Horner.  Together they enjoyed traveling on their Gold Wing motorcycle and yearly vacations in Arizona.  One of Sonja’s fondest memories was a family trip to Norway she shared with her daughters.  She loved her dogs, especially her beloved dachshund Otto.  Sonja enjoyed reading mystery books.  She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dean; five children, Lisa Mennes-Coon, Ed (Amy Boyd) Mennes, Holly Mennes, Kristi Wright, and Lisa (Jeff) Alme; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Erickson; sister, Martha Erickson; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.  Sonja was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Gene and Erik Erickson.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton, with Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating.  Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following in the church fellowship hall.  Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services Wednesday at church.  Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. or Christ Lutheran Church.  A special thank you to the staff of Skaalen and Agrace, especially nurse Elena Kornilova, for their care of Sonja.  Please share your memories of Sonja by posting on her Tribute Wall.
