Sissie Hallverson

June 23, 1942 — December 20, 2015

Stoughton- Sissie Hallverson passed away peacefully on December 20, 2015. She was born Patsy Hannah Halverson on June 23, 1942 in Monroe, WI to Alvin Halverson, Jr. and Elsie (Crawford) Halverson Park, and later changed her name to Sissie Hannah Hallverson. Sissie graduated high school and attended UW Madison for a short time. Sissie worked at City View Nursing Home in Madison and was a homemaker. Sissie married Gary Lee Helgesen in 1964 and they later divorced. Sissie was a member of Northport Baptist Church in Madison. Sissie was a free spirited woman who was fiercely independent. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her love of animals, especially elephants, and a propensity to break out in song, especially the song You Are My Sunshine, a song she sang to her daughter. She had a great love of the Capitol Square and spent much of her life in the area. Sissie's life was one with challenges, but she was able to spend the end of her life living with dignity and independence at Holly's House Adult Family Home. She enjoyed attending MARC-Stoughton each week where she loved to make crafts and spend time with the support staff. She enjoyed getting out weekly, usually to get McDonald's hash browns and make a trip to Wal-Mart. She always loved a bargain! Thank you to Holly and the dedicated staff at her home who gave Sissie the care and support she needed. Thank you to Sara Gerke, Dane County and Journey Mental Health who helped support Sissie to give her independence she so loved. Thank you to South Madison Coalition of the Elderly's Volunteer Guardianship Program, Senior Helpers and Agrace Hospice for their care at the end of her life. Thank you to Katie Breitzman, for overseeing Sissie's care and business affairs in her last years. Sissie was able to thrive the past few years with the support provided by all those involved in her life. Often it takes a strong community to help those who need it most. This was certainly true in Sissie's life. All of her caregivers and support network had their lives touched by Sisse and will forever carry her in their hearts. Sissie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Franklin Duane Halverson. Sissie is survived by her daughter Bobbie (Scott) Dombrowski, by grandsons David, Daniel and Darrick of Madison, by her sister-in-law Claire Halverson of Arizona, by her niece Karen Halverson of Madison, and by many other relatives. A gravesite memorial service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, 200 Cemetery St., Evansville, WI on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
