Silvia Iordachescu

June 9, 1923 — March 12, 2012

Madison - Silvia Regina Iordachescu, age 88, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born June 9th, 1923 in Tartu, Estonia. When WWII broke out she was taken from Estonia to a work camp in Germany where she met and married her husband, Stefan. She had two children in Germany before the family came to Madison in 1951. She worked at various jobs, among them a Girls Counselor and Correction's Officer at Oakhill. During that time, she had two more children. She worked hard along side her husband, saving money and dreaming of some day owning a home of her own. This dream came true when the two of them, doing a lot of the work themselves, built a home in Madison where she remained until her death. She loved gardening, flowers, knitting, sewing, baking, cooking, and the Green Bay Packers. She was very artistic and created many home decorations from shells brought back from their trips to Florida. She knitted wool caps for the newborns in local hospitals, and loved babysitting her grandchildren. She celebrated 66 years of marriage July 13th, 2011 to her husband, Stefan, and always loved having family dinners. She is survived by her husband, Stefan; daughters, Lya Gauthier of East Tawas, Michigan and Marietta Iordachescu of Tomahawk, Wisc.; sons, Nicholas of Minocqua, Wisc. and Steven of Madison, Wisc.; three grandchildren, Lori, Lindsay and Andrew; and one great granddaughter, Molly. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but remembered for her strengths, creativity, compassion and love she had for life and those around her.
