Sidney Scheldrup

Stoughton- Sidney Herman Scheldrup, age 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 31, 2013. He was born in Poynette on January 3, 1924, the son of Fritz and Lillian (Bohling) Scheldrup. Sidney graduated from Stoughton High School in 1942. Following graduation, he and his brother "Bud" owned and operated the Scheldrup Brothers Feed Mill in Stoughton. Their feed mill business was interrupted by being called to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. The brothers resumed operation of the mill following their discharge from service in 1946 until 1967 when they sold the mill. On April 25, 1948 Sidney married Ruby Lucille Olson. Sidney managed several different feed mills in the area until his retirement in 1988. His passion included spending time with his family, his dogs, and training and racing horses in Wisconsin and Chicago. Sidney is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruby; three daughters, Becky (Larry) Gloyd, Cindy (Jim) Ellis and Jill (Tom) Donahey; four grandchildren, Tammy Gloyd, Tracey (Charles) Hartley, Nick Ellis and Zoe Donahey; three great grandchildren, Kyle, Blair and Blake Hartley; brother, Arthur Scheldrup; sister, Mary Smithback; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Patrick Gloyd; brother, Owen "Bud" Scheldrup; and sister, Jeanette (Roy) Nelson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Covenant Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Van Buren Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Mark Petersen officiating. Burial, with Military honors, will follow in Lutheran Cemetery South. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services Monday at church.
