Shirley Ann Miller/ 91 /Waunakee

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Miller.  Mom was reunited with her husband on Monday, September 18.  Born on August 8, 1932 she lived 91 years in the Madison-Waunakee area. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1950.  On July 4,1953, Mom married Joseph Miller and they had 32 wonderful years together before he passed in 1985.

Mom had many hobbies and interests. In her younger days she was a nanny and then a switchboard operator. Once children started arriving, she was a stay-at-home mom filling her days with childcare. Mom took pride in helping the community as much as she could. She was a volunteer for the Veteran’s Hospital, Waunakee food pantry, Westport fruitcake drive and many more worthy causes.  She is known by many as the “funeral lunch lady”.  She was active in St. John’s Parish and the Waunakee American Legion Auxiliary.  She was instrumental in starting the St. John’s Sunday School program. Mom enjoyed attending community theater, loved her various card clubs and getting pull tabs for the Badgers and Packers. Mom was active in her own sports, including bowling, curling and golf. Mom was our biggest supporter in all our sporting and musical events through the years- always ready with the cowbell!

Family was everything to mom. Her 5 children & their families brought her much joy. She loved being a grandmother and was thrilled to have lived long enough to see great grandchildren! Mom is survived by her daughter-in-law Karen Miller and grandchildren Joseph, Daniel (Liz) & Marirose (Dolf); Lori Miller (Kristin Martin); Sue Henry (Tim Jaeger) and granddaughter Bryanna (Jake Wald); Mary Lenz "Mertz" and grandchildren Kristina (Matt Caravella), Tom (Julianne), Brian (Alyssa); and David Miller (Terri) and grandchildren Katryna (Donny), Cory (Kat) and Kyle (Colee). Mom was thrilled to have seven great grandchildren and one more on the way! She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lee Huffer (Jim).

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and her son Joseph; her parents, LaVern and Marie Germann; siblings Joy Stormer (Nell), Bob Germann (June), Elaine Blawusch (Bob), David Germann (Elnora), Carol Gove (Maurice), Geraldine “Jeri” Connell (Richard) as well as her in-laws Herman and Faye Miller, Lucille and Joseph Miller and Jim and Mary Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Sat. Sept. 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

It has been said once before and we all agree, everyone should have a Shirley Miller in their life! She was indeed a wonderful woman and she will be missed.

Speaking for Mom, Sue, Mary, and David would like to express a special thank you to Lori for the countless hours she spent with mom. Lori put mom’s needs above her own for many years. Mom would never have been able to stay in her own home for nearly 90 years, if it wasn’t for the unconditional love and support Lori gave to her. Lori THANK YOU will never be enough. We will be forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers the family will designate a memorial at a later date keeping in mind Shirley’s generous nature.
