Shirley Irgens

Shirley E. Irgens daughter of Louis C. and Bessie (Borkenhagen) Zicker, born March 14, 1928 in West Allis, Wisconsin passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 87. Shirley was a 1945 graduate of West Allis Central High School and earned a B.A. degree in Economics in 1949 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shirley met her husband Oliver Kay (O.K.) Irgens while attending The University of Wisconsin-Madison. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Mark (Coleen) Irgens D.D.S., Edgerton, WI and Jim (Debbie) Irgens, Knightdale, NC; daughters: Jane (Carl) Geraldson, Nashotah, WI and Sue (Doug) Dunbar, Castle Rock, CO; nine grandchildren: Allen Irgens J.D. (Golnaz Arastoopour), Carrie (Ryan) Darnell, C. Taylor Geraldson M.D. (Sarah Nguyen), Adam Geraldson, Melissa Irgens, Kenneth Irgens, Robert, Christina and Caroline Dunbar; one great grandson, Levi Darnell; sister-in-law Wilma Zicker, Salem, OR; brother-in-law Robert Remiker, Hales Corners, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years Oliver Kay (O.K.) Irgens; her mother and father; brother Eldon Zicker; sister Betty Remiker; her special Aunt Irmie; sister and brother-in-laws Marcia & Warren Gollen; Charlotte & James Spohn.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. Her family meant everything to her! She took great joy in gourmet cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting and making everything special for her family. Shirley and Kay were long-time members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. She was an active member of PEO Chapter BY from 1964-2009. She was an avid bridge player who was known for her competitive spirit. The family wishes to thank Swift Haven Community, Edgerton, WI, where she lived for the past three years, Cate Ranheim M.D., Madison, WI, Skaalen Nursing & Rehab Center, Stoughton, WI and Cress Funeral & Cremation Services, Sun Prairie, WI for their care and compassion. A Private Memorial Service will be held by the family at a later date.

Memorials may be made in Shirley's name to The Arthritis Foundation or The Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
