Shirley J. Cowie, age 94, died June 7, 2018.

Shirley was born in Chicago on May 5, 1924. On March 3, 1945, she married James Cowie. They were married for 67 years, raising two children in Elmhurst, Illinois.

After Jim's retirement they moved to Walker, Minnesota, and spent the next 29 years dividing their time between Walker and Green Valley, Arizona. While living in Walker, Shirley discovered and developed a love of painting. She became an accomplished watercolor artist, always learning and encouraging others to try their hand at art.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, who died in 2013. After his death she moved to Madison to live closer to family. She is survived by her children, Don (Bonnie) Cowie, Linda (Bob) Taylor and five grandchildren: Becky (Joe) Mulholland, Doug (Katie Prangle) Cowie, Christie (Joe) Davidson, Russ (Ingrid) Taylor, and Kenny (Jen) Taylor, as well as three great-grandchildren: Max Davidson, Leon Taylor and Eleanor Taylor.

A memorial service celebrating Shirley's life will be held in the Garden Room of Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Rd, Madison, on Saturday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 326 Segoe Rd., Madison or the studio at Attic Angel Place.
