Obituary

Sherrill Lynn Schreiter, 72, of Sun Prairie passed peacefully on Saturday July 18, 2026 at New Perspective Senior Living in Sun Prairie, WI.

Sherrill was born on July 9, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert and Beverly Wolff. She married Gary Schreiter on August 15, 1974 and together they created a warm, loving home where everyone felt welcomed and cared for.

She was a dedicated and devoted mother and kept her sons (and their friends) busy and engaged with various activities and adventures throughout their childhood. She especially enjoyed taking her sons camping, biking, and to various sports activities. After her children were older, Sherrill worked as a paraeducator with the Special School District of St. Louis County at Sappington Elementary School. Sherrill greatly enjoyed her time in education, where her endless patience and deep empathy truly shined.

She raised her family in Fenton, Missouri, before heading west to Thompson Falls, Montana with her husband, Gary, following their retirements. She later returned to Kirkwood, Missouri, and eventually made her home in Madison, Wisconsin, where she cherished being closer to her older son and grandsons.

Throughout her life, Sherrill faced numerous health challenges with incredible strength and resilience. She overcame obstacles that would have discouraged many, yet she never allowed them to define her. Instead, she chose to approach each day with positivity, optimism, and strength. Sherrill was a people person and never met a stranger. She enjoyed meeting new people and making lasting connections with others. She spent many hours enjoying the great outdoors and tending her various gardens and tree planting projects. Later in life, she loved reading and would happily accept any invitation to join a local book club.

Sherrill is survived by her mother Beverly (Wolff) Stephens, her brother Brad Wolff, and sons, Bryan (Beth) Schreiter and David (Jeongmi) Schreiter; grandchildren Colin, Connor, Felix, and May.

She is preceded in death by her father Robert Wolff and husband Gary Schreiter.

A visitation and celebration of life is planned for August 21 from 2-4 pm at Winn-Cress Funeral and Cremation Service in Waunakee.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sherrill’s memory to Olbrich Botanical Gardens of Madison Wisconsin or the Madison Public Library.
