Sharon Barker

STOUGHTON--Sharon S. Barker, 78, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born in Paterson, New Jersey on May 7, 1935 the daughter of Joseph J. and Ruth A. (Speirs) Seyer. She was united in marriage to Irvy T. Barker on July 15, 1954 in Hawthorne, NJ. Together they raised a son, I. Thomas Barker III.

Sharon was an exceptionally talented woman and was known for her many works of art, including bird oil paintings, knitted, crocheted and needlepoint pieces which she so generously gave to family and friends. She was also a gourmet cook having taught herself from a very novice level. Sharon also had a love for all animals especially birds and enjoyed feeding them while relaxing on her porch.

Over the years Sharon and Irvy enjoyed camping in their many trailers owned over time; their last big trip together was to the Baha, Mexico in 1994.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Irvy; granddaughters, Tanya Barker and Trista (Ryan) Steele; great-grandchild, Isabelle; sister-in-law, Ina Barker; nieces and nephews, Linda (Don) Diers, James (Mary Lynn) Barker, Jr., Dennis (Deborah Lee) Barker, Judy (Eddie) Crump, and David (Marianne) Barker; also great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son I. Thomas, and brothers-in-law, George (Ruth) Barker and James Barker, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Cress Funeral Home, Stoughton. The Reverend Clyde Cross will officiate. Family will greet friends after 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Graves Cemetery, Town of Rutland. A luncheon will follow.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Stoughton Senior Center or the Stoughton Veterinary Service, Inc.
