S.Craig Waggoner

S. Craig Waggoner, age 59, of Middleton, Wisconsin, died on September 4, 2008 at HospiceCare Inc. in Madison, Wisconsin, from colon cancer first diagnosed in September 2007. He was born on July 16, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Sheldon Cleveland Waggoner and Dorothy Mae (Gerdes) Waggoner. Craig graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee in 1968 and from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1979. In Milwaukee, Craig worked as an assistant manager at an auto supply warehouse, as the manager of a group home for disturbed adolescent males, as a counselor for battered women and abusive men, as a hospital psychiatric aide, specializing in sexual abuse and trauma victims and as a family counselor for Lutheran Social Services of Dodge County. Craig lived in the Madison area from 1993 until his death. In Madison, he worked with Community Housing and Services and with Community Action Coalition. Craig served as the Case Manager for Middleton Outreach Ministry from 2001 until his retirement due to his illness in March 2008. Craig was a writer and published: plays, short stories and articles in independent magazines and journals including CounterPunch and Mobius. Craig is survived by his thirteen year old son, Sam and Sam's mother Meri Lau; his sisters Penelope Waggoner of Bloomington, Indiana, and Pamela Waggoner (Bruce Gilman) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his mother Dorothy Waggoner of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Craig was a member of the Madison Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). A memorial service, in the manner of Friends, is planned for Sunday, September 14 at 3:00 pm at the Meetinghouse at 1704 Roberts Court, Madison, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: a trust established for Sam Waggoner, HospiceCare Foundation Inc, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway Madison Wisconsin 53711 or Middleton Outreach Ministry, 7432 Hubbard Avenue, Middleton, Wisconsin 53562. Craig's family wishes to thank ""Pod 6"" of HospiceCare, Sue DeLong, Rebecca Parks and Angela Graff, Adele Nak and his many Friends for the kindness, care, support and love they gave him during his illness. Craig's wit and gentle smile will be missed.
