Scott Vingum

Scott Allen Vingum, age 57, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on September 25, 2026. He was a devoted and cherished husband, father, and grandfather.

Scott was born on February 26, 1969, in Madison, WI, the son of Jerry and Doris (Hein) Vingum. He grew up in Stoughton, WI, and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1987. He was a dedicated employee as a Labor Foreman at Findorff, where he worked for 34 years. When he retired in December 2024, everyone knew him as a boss with high expectations who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and work alongside the crew to ensure the job was done right.

On June 12, 1999, he married “the love of my life, my rock,” April (Buschmann) Vingum. During their 27 years of marriage, they shared many adventures. When COVID hit, he and April purchased ATVs and took many trips to northern Wisconsin to ride. He especially liked being in Mercer and Spooner, Wisconsin.

He loved the outdoors. He would spend many fall mornings and late afternoons sitting in a tree stand. While he enjoyed crossbow hunting, he loved gun deer season most. He didn’t mind playing the long game: though he usually had a deer by the end of the season, he never got “The Hartford”, although he watched every year for the big buck.

Scott was also an expert fisherman and loved walleye fishing most. He took several charter fishing trips with his boys, friends, family, and coworkers. He liked to host a fish fry every fall to bring his friends and family together to enjoy the fish. He never turned down the opportunity to have a good campfire in the backyard. He also had a special interest in Native American history and artifacts.

Family always came first to Scott. He took great pride in watching and helping his children grow. Whether it was long weekends spent at the hockey rink, watching dance recitals, or attending band performances, Scott never missed an opportunity to support his children. He took every opportunity to share his love of the outdoors with his kids by hunting and fishing with them. They even had a “secret” fishing spot they visited frequently. Later in life, he enjoyed every minute spent with his grandchildren.

Scott is survived by his wife, April; children Ryan (Sarah), Eric, Colten (Samantha), and Taylor (Maximillian Garcia III); grandchildren Jameson, Magnolia, Kayden, and Grady; brother Steven Vingum and newly reunited brothers Matt (Leigh Ann) Larson and Michael (Dana) Larson; sister-in-law Robin (James) West; mother-in-law Vicki Buschmann; nephew Logan West; newly reunited stepfather Tom Larson; and many more nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Doris Vingum, father-in-law William Buschmann, and his newly reunited mother, Sandra Larson.

The family would like to express deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at UW Carbone Cancer Center and Rainbow Community Care for their wonderful care.

The family invites all who knew and loved Scott to join them on Saturday, October 24, 2026. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 am at Cress Funeral Home, 206 Prospect St., Stoughton, WI 53589, with a service at 11:00 am. A graveside burial will follow immediately after the service at Kroghville Cemetery, CTH O & Kroghville Rd, Kroghville, WI 53594. Following the burial, there will be a luncheon at The Otis Sampson American Legion Post 59, 803 Page St, Stoughton, WI 53589.
