Sau Fong Chu (Nickname: Wah Kee Mama) 1925.01.01 – 2025 • Age 100 (Chinese age 103)

Passed peacefully at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many.

Birth & Family Background

Sau Fong Chu was born on January 1, 1925, in China to Jor Hoi Chu and Tsui Yeung Mong. She married Wai Ming Ng in 1944 in Hong Kong. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and her grandson Benjamin Ng.

Biography

For 35 years, Sau Fong and her husband founded and began building Wah Kee Restaurant together. Although her husband was with her for only the first five years, their shared vision became the foundation of the business. After his passing, Sau Fong carried the restaurant through the decades on her own, running Wah Kee with remarkable strength and determination until 2019. Over time, Wah Kee became a beloved gathering place, and she became affectionately known as “Wah Kee Mama.” Everyone who entered the restaurant could feel her warmth, generosity, and genuine care.

Born and raised with very little, Sau Fong became a woman known for her great heart; empathetic, giving, and quietly strong. Her kindness, dignity, and steady presence left lasting impressions on all who knew her. She also established a scholarship in her and her husband’s name in Hong Kong, where they met and grew up, to encourage students with different talents, not only those with traditional academic achievements.

Above all, Sau Fong was a loving and devoted mother of seven children whose greatest joy was her family. Her wisdom, patience, and gentle spirit will continue to live in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

As a family, we will forever hold her love close and take comfort in knowing that her warmth and kindness live on in every life she touched.

追思敬愛的朱秀芳女士（華記媽媽）

我們懷著無比沉痛的心情，宣布 朱秀芳女士 安詳離世，享耆壽一百歲（中國傳統虛歲一百零三歲）。秀芳女士是 賢淑的妻子、慈愛的母親、祖母、外祖母，曾祖母，亦是社區深受愛戴的好鄰里。

朱秀芳女士與丈夫共同創立 華記餐館，並在最初的五年共同打理。丈夫離世後，她以堅強的毅力獨自把華記帶領經營數十年，一直延續到 2019 年結業。原本屬於兩人的心願，成為她一生的堅持，華記也逐漸成為街坊熟悉、充滿人情味的小店。她更被大家親切地稱為 「華記媽媽」，走進華記的人都能感受到她的溫暖與真誠。

秀芳女士自小家境清寒，但在艱難中成長為胸懷寬厚、心地善良的人。她待人慷慨、樂於付出，以包容與堅韌感染身邊每一位朋友。 她的善意與大方氣度，成為許多人生命中永難忘懷的力量。在2016年更建立了獎學金在德，智，体, 群, 育各領域取得優異成績的學生獲得鼓勵，希望籍此建立他們的自信及道德。

最重要的是，秀芳女士是一位充滿愛的慈母育有七位子女, 家庭是她最大的喜悅，她將所有的心力、愛與智慧都奉獻給子女與後代。她的溫柔、耐心與包容，將永遠照亮家人的心。

我們一家人會永遠懷念她的愛，也深信她的溫暖與善良將在所有被她感動的人心中延續。
