Saranne "Sara" Strain

Madison - Saranne L. “Sara” (Meyer) Strain age 75, died on April 10, 2023 at Oak Park Place skilled nursing facility in Madison. Sara, along with her identical twin sister, was born in Madison on Sep 30, 1947 to Robert W and Mernelda L (Philumalee) Meyer. Affectionately known as Tubby and Tiny (one weighed more at birth), the twins were the 7th and 8th in a family of 9 siblings.  Sara graduated from Madison West High School in 1965 and then attended MATC.  Sara met her husband on a blind date, got married Feb 17, 1968 and had two children—Erica and Shawn. They made their home in Madison, WI. Sara worked in various retail jobs with the majority of her time being employed by Shopko where she held many different positions over 25+ years before retiring.  Sara enjoyed reading, word puzzles and cross stitch.  She always welcomed people to her home or to share a meal. Her greatest love was her grandchildren whom she cared for regularly while they were young.  Sara was a 3rd generation member of First Baptist Church in Madison.  She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary unit 501, serving in many ways including the bowling committee, working at the Friday Fish Fry and serving as unit president for multiple years.  Sara is survived by her children Erica (Tom) Kersten and Shawn (Shelly) Strain; grandkids Vanessa, Charlotte & Ava Kersten, Johnathon & Gracie Strain; siblings Bob (Linda) Meyer, Ada Rose, Glenann Yahnke; many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Sara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Greg Strain; siblings Donna Whitcher, Victoria Grindstaff, Dianne (Tiny) Meyer, Mernelda (Char) Koehler, and Rod Meyer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday April 17, 2023 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave. Madison with Rev. Tim Schaefer presiding.  A luncheon will follow the funeral on Monday.  Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday April 16, 2023 at the funeral home and also from 10:00 AM until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
