Madison - Sarah (Sally) Jean McAuliffe Sergenian, age 80, of Madison passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Agrace Hospice Center. The youngest of seven siblings, Sally was born March 1st, 1934, the daughter of Stella (Morris) and William McAuliffe. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1952, and pursued an education in nursing. Sally graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1955 and worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary's in Madison.
While a student at St. Mary's, she met Bob Sergenian, her husband of 58 years. They married on May 12, 1956 and recently celebrated their anniversary in the presence of fellow patients and medical staff at Meriter Hospital. Sally, a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandmother, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, matching wits with tv contestants on Jeopardy, and hosting holidays with family.
Sally is survived by her husband Robert M, four children; Robert J of Madison, Jeffery (Kim) of Sun Prairie, Mary (Brian) Good of Fort Mill, SC and Laura (Jay) of Gambrills, MD. Five grandchildren, Robert A. Sergenian, Joseph (Katlyn) Sergenian, Kaitlin Lee Sergenian, Zoe Catherine Good, Carter Joseph Good, and one Great-granddaughter, Marissa May Sergenian. Sister Rita (George) Roherty and Ellen (Mel) Holmberg, brother-in-law Marshall (Lorraine), Ronald (Alice), Paul (Diane), David (Rosie) and sister-in-law Miriam (Garbis) Jeknavorian and Jayne (Ara), and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary (Al) Hamlin and Elizabeth (Forrest) Knox, her brothers James (Bernice), William (Elsie), granddaughters Claudia Kay and Emily Jean Good and daughter-in-law Mina Lee (Robert J) Sergenian.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison, with Fr. Bart Timmerman presiding. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass at the church on Wednesday
