Sanford Lyles, Jr.

December 16, 1938 — March 14, 2016

Sanford "San" Lyles Jr. passed away peacefully from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on March 14, 2016.

He was born on December 16, 1938 in Jackson, Tennessee, son of Sanford and Roberta (Dailey) Lyles. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1945. Sanford attended George Washington Carver high school and designed the cover of the year book. He was a talented artist and expressed himself through his unique artwork.

In the late 1960's, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin and was employed by the Madison Metropolitan school district as a custodian for 24 years. He also worked for Lutheran Social Services and Fenske Security. He was a past member of the Madison Beloit Consistory #84 and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Sanford married Terri Lyons on January 29, 2000 at the home of her parents, Bob and Eileen Lyons. He was a loyal Badger and Packer football fan. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard and spent countless hours washing and waxing his car. He liked to play the lottery, which earned him the nickname "Lucky".

Sanford will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and soft spoken manner. He had a devilish smile and a sparkle in his eyes that always kept you guessing what he was thinking.

He had a deep love for Jesus and unwavering faith. His experiences in life taught him to have compassion for the less fortunate and the "under dog".

Sanford is survived by his wife, Terri; a sister Doris Gould of Chicago; a cousin Ann Powers of Madison and a small circle of family, friends and neighbors. He is also survived by his faithful companion and 'self-appointed' service dog, Shadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Frank and Dennis; as well as Terri's parents, Bob and Eileen Lyons. A private burial service for Sanford was held with Fr. Bart Timmerman officiating. Erik Gyr assisted the family from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Nazareth Health and Rehab in Stoughton for their exceptional care, dignity and compassion shown to Sanford and his family at all times.

His loving and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
