Deerfield/Mt. Horeb - Sanford Michael Dahl, age 87, passed away on Saturday April 7, 2018, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 25, 1930, in Deerfield to Arnie and Caroline (Haakenson) Dahl. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War Conflict as a member of a Recoilless Rifle Platoon as an Infantryman stationed in the Alaskan Territory. He then married the love of his life, Mary Ann Wang on November 8, 1958. Sanford and Mary Ann owned and operated Deerfield Hardware Hank, proudly serving their community. He also worked for Irv Gullickson Inc., hauling milk throughout the Midwest.
Sanford enjoyed running beagles with his brother Cliff and was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Beagle Club in Rio, Wisconsin. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Time spent with family playing cards and attending his grandchildren's activities brought Sanford great joy.
Sanford is survived by his children, Janet, Robert (Brenda), Dennis, Jennifer (Chuck) Lovelace, grandchildren, Cassandra, Harry, Alex (Haley), Allison, Cheyanne (Catlin) Doherty, Kaitlyn, Shelby, Jorgen, Nate, Charlie and great grandchildren, Harry, Taylor, Dayne, Deacon, Owen, Annabell and Maverick. Also survived by sister Lorraine Hoel, brother Norman (Beverly), sister Ruth (Wayne) Scheel, and brother Arnie (Ann). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, parents Arnie and Caroline, son-in-law Bill Hinrichs, brother Clifford, niece Linda Dahl, sister-in-law Nina Dahl, and brother-in-law Joseph Hoel.
A memorial service will be held at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S Main St, Deerfield, WI on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Larry Sexe officiating. A visitation will be held from noon until the time of service at church. Lunch will be served following the service at church.
