Sandra L. Vernig

Sandra Lee Vernig, 81, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was born to Arthur and Myrtle Voelker in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She was the second of three children. She grew up in Sauk City and graduated from Sauk City High School in 1962. Sandy married Marlin Vernig on October 21, 1967, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Sun Prairie. Sandy stayed home to raise their three children before re-entering the workforce and retired from Wisconsin Physicians Service in 2005.

Sandy was a kind soul with a beautiful heart. She was always there for her family and friends. She cherished her family, and enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, camping and sightseeing throughout the United States with her husband, Marlin. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, sharing her creations and stories with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barb Stoffels, and special friend Cheryl Gherke. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marlin; son Bob (Jenn); daughters Sherri (Jerry) Boebel and Julie (Matt) Vernig; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother Ron (Cookie) Voelker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday Sept 19, 2026 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:30 with a luncheon to follow immediately after.

The family are extremely grateful and would like to thank the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center and Agrace for their compassionate care and support during Sandy’s battle with cancer.
