There is life as it is known from day to day living. Then, there is living, thriving, and leaving your mark. Sandi Chase began living her life and thriving right around the age of 30 when she met her beloved Ricky Howland. Her life before Ricky was hard. Sandi was born on April 26, 1964. She was not real close with most of her family of origin, having a rough relationship with her mother, Betty. Sandi earned her GED and served a short stint in the Reserves.
Sandi married Ricky on October 21, 1995. With marriage brought her kids, Kelly and Bryan. Her family grew with 7 grandchildren; who became the light of her life. She had a special connection with “B.” Family life also included her beloved pets, most recently Sir Remington.
Sandi retired from B&G foods on April 30, 2019, after nearly 20 years of work. In her retirement, she was able to enjoy her life, despite her health. Sandi lived with Stage 4 COPD most of those years and did her very best to be present at every moment possible. She vacationed to Door County. She cheered on the Packers from Lambeau. She traveled as she could to meet long lost family members and to continue fall traditions like visiting apple orchards. She was mom and grandma to many over the years and welcomed them all into her home with a “Shut the door!” and a “You know where the kitchen is!”
Sandi also spent her retirement years keeping Ricky on track. She partnered with him as they served the Stoughton UMC food pantry. She made sure he was able to live his good life too! She surrounded herself with people of kindred spirits: kind, caring, honest, edgy, and always full of the truth. However, she never wanted to partner with Ricky during a Euchre game.
Sandi’s heart and faith were evident with each conversation you had with her; even if it took a while to get there. She had some colorful language when she talked about politics that softened when she talked about Jesus. Due to her health, she was primarily an at-home member with Stoughton United Methodist Church in recent years. Her faith never wavered in the face of opposition. She was baptized in the United Methodist faith on February 27, 1994. The three simple rules of faith in the UMC tradition: do no harm, do good, stay in love with God. Her faith journey was paralleled with her living her best life she possibly could.
She went home to Jesus on June 21, 2026 with her beloveds by her side, including Sir Remington. She is survived by her husband, Ricky; her daughter Kelly Thorsen (Joseph); her grandchildren, Shanna, Haley, Brooklyn, Judah, Vaeda, Alexis and Savannah. She is also survived by many other family and friends that were part of her circle. She left her mark on this world. She is predeceased by her son, Bryan Howland; mother, Betty Chase and mother-in-law, Darlene Howland.
An evening visitation will take place from 4PM until 7PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Cress Funeral Service. Funeral services will take place at 11AM on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at United Methodist Church in Stoughton, with a visitation prior at church to begin at 10AM.
