Obituary

Sally Ann (Morris) Thwing, 89, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge Health & Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family.

Sally was born on April 5, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts to Caleb and Elsie (Ralston) Morris. She grew up in Westwood, MA, graduating from Westwood High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Bates College in Maine and her Master’s from Boston University. Sally often traveled in the U.S. for summer church mission work while in school.

Sally taught for a time at Perkin’s School For The Blind in Watertown, MA, but spent most of her career as a librarian at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, the majority of which was spent at Widener Library.

After retiring from Harvard, Sally moved to Madison, WI to be closer to her family and lived at Oakwood for nearly 16 years. Living in the Midwest allowed Sally to spend enjoyable time with her two grandchildren as they grew up - regularly tagging along for shopping, playing board games, and eating at Culver’s.

Sally also enjoyed day trips with family and even joined her family on a few of their adventures traveling around the Great Lakes with their RV trailer. Sally also enjoyed traveling to the Hearing Loss Association of America’s annual conferences which were held in different U.S. cities each year.

Sally was an avid reader and truly loved watching BBC dramas and Mystery on PBS (please don't call me on a Sunday night). She also found great joy in her son’s two dogs, Cooper and Coco, who will certainly miss “Grandma.”

Sally is survived by her son, David Thwing, her daughter-in-law, Iileen Thwing, and two grandchildren, Luka and Noah.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Bristol Hospice and Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge Health & Rehab Center staff for their exceptional care and compassion for Sally. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sally’s name to Wisconsin PBS, if you so desire.
