Ruthanne "Cookie" Horning
Ruthanne "Cookie" Horning, 73, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Meriter Hospital in Madison after a second open heart surgery. Born on July 23, 1941, she grew up in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. In the mid-seventies she moved to Adams County where she raised horses and show dogs. After retirement, Ruthanne spent much of her time volunteering for hospice and became an avid reader. She read an average of 400 books a year and was active in the Adams County libraries "Good Clean Reading Club" and "Mystery Book Club". She was active in the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association (WWOA) and was gifted in organizing and running the silent auction at the Annual Meetings. She was a very giving person and was always willing to help people when in need. Active in the local Mah Jongg group, she looked forward to the weekly Mah Jongg get togethers. She also enjoyed playing cards especially "hand and foot" with various groups of friends. Ruthanne is survived by one brother John "Skip" and was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She will be missed by many friends and nieces and nephews. Her loving and generous heart will be sorely missed but many memories will be held in the hearts of those who knew her. A gathering of friends is planned for the autumn of 2014.
