Ruth Simmons

MADISON- Ruth C. Simmons (Bingman), age 84, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014. She was born on April 29, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to Norbert and Minnie (Winter) Bingman. Ruth married William E. Simmons on June 7, 1953.
Ruth attended Eastern Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin Madison, having received both her Bachelors and Masters of Library Science. She thrived in the education environment and served in her early years as a high school English teacher and then a librarian for the majority of her career. She was employed at Middleton High School until her retirement in 1994.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, her flower gardens, her family and her friends. She was an animal lover and in recent years, took joy in watching the animals that visited her feeders. Ruth was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed for her warm smile, hugs and the love she shared with all of her family.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill, of Madison; daughter Sue (Adam) Brown of Oregon; son Scott (Jennifer) Simmons of Green Bay; and grandchildren Chris and Katie Brown and Amanda and Emily Simmons. She is further survived by additional friends and family. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and brother Ralph Bingman.
Friends and family will gather from 11:30-1:00 PM on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison. A luncheon celebrating Ruth's life will commence at 12:00 PM (noon) on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Cress Center.
