Ruth Scheel

September 24, 1921 — September 7, 2012

Madison - Ruth E. Scheel, age 90, went to her heavenly home on Friday, September 7, 2012 after walking with her Lord, Jesus Christ her whole life. She was receiving Hospice Care at Four Winds Lodge in Verona after living there for several years. Her granddaughter, Corrie, was present and holding her hand when she died. She had been able to say good-bye to close family members the week of her death.

Ruth was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Dora Lockhart of Mt. Hope, Wisconsin. She married her late husband, Perry Scheel, of Hanover, WI in 1943.

She graduated Salutatorian from high school in Mt. Hope, WI in 1940. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing from 1941 to 1942. She had a long career of providing foster care to children, providing for boarders in her home, and working at the Madison YWCA and for the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, IL.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Scheel (Vicky) and Barry Scheel (Vicki). Her grandchildren are Rachel Rodgers (Matt), Corrie Rosensteel (John), Aaron Scheel, Rachelle Arechiga (Jason) and Rebecca Ortensie (Ken). She also had 8 great-grandchildren, Eden and Jubilee Rosensteel, Angel Wolfe, James & Joshua Arechiga, Jeanell, Anthony, and Marc Ortensie. She is also survived by nieces, a nephew and a few dear friends.

All who knew Ruth will miss her unique humor and countless stories, but most of all her deep, abiding love for her Savior and humanity. Although she was severely debilitated for years, she remained full of faith, wisdom, and wonder. The solace we find in our loss here on Earth is in knowing she dances and rejoices before her Creator as she was always meant to.

A memorial service will be held at BLACKHAWK CHURCH, 9620 Brader Way, Middleton, 53562, on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Rosensteel officiating. A visitation will be held at church on Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Memorials can be made to Blackhawk Church or Four Winds Manor and Lodge, 303 South Jefferson Street, Verona, WI 53593.
