Ruth Jaehnig

January 22, 1925 — June 19, 2018

Fitchburg / Manitowoc- Ruth Claire (La Fond) Jaehnig, 93, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2018 at Meriter Hospital in Madison surrounded by her children. She was born on January 22, 1925, to David and Catherine (Geimer) La Fond in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and graduated from Washington High School in 1944. On August 29, 1946, Ruth and James H. Jaehnig were united in marriage. They celebrated 63 years together. They worked and raised five children in Manitowoc and moved to Fitchburg in 2006.

She is survived by her children: Monica (Tom Schrader) Jaehnig, Madison; Lisa (Doug) Olson, Stoughton; Kurt (Karen) Jaehnig, Madison; Chris (Melissa) Jaehnig, New York, NY; Adrea (Heidi Parker) Jaehnig, Portland, ME. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Emily (Nick) Raykovich, Madison; Gregory Jaehnig, Boulder, CO, and Patrick Olson, Evansville; and one great-grandchild: Braelynn Olson, Evansville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James. With Ruth's passing, a generation of twelve La Fond siblings, born from 1898 to 1925, has ended.

The family would like to thank the staff of Meriter Hospital and UW Health for their excellent and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy., Madison, with Monsignor Thomas F. Baxter presiding, with a visitation one hour prior to service. Ruth will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, 2705 Regent St. Madison.

The family would appreciate memorials to Catholic Multicultural Center (C/O Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison, WI 53711); Wisconsin Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network (DAV State Headquarters, 1253 Scheuring Road, Suite A, De Pere, WI 54115), or other charity of the donor's choice.
