Ruth Davis

October 19, 1923 — December 26, 2013

MADISON--Ruth Greenlee Davis died December 26, 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin surrounded by family. She was born (October 19, 1923) and raised in Chicago and received BA and MA degrees from the University of Chicago. She married Harry Davis on September 6, 1947 and they moved to Beloit in 1948 when he accepted a teaching position at Beloit College. They lived in Beloit until 2010 when they moved to Oakwood Village in Madison.

Ruth was a proud and loyal Beloiter. She was a member and officer of the then First Presbyterian Church and active in many other local organizations over the years. She was widely appreciated for her skills as an organizer and hostess, and for many years coordinated the activities of the Beloit College faculty-staff dining club. Ruth also played a very active role in the Rock County Democratic Party.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Edith Greenlee, her brother Howard, and daughter-in-law Susan Davis. She is survived by her husband Harry and children Peter (Meaghan Healy), Scott (Sue Badgett), and Martha (Habib Takele), three grandchildren (Meg, Kate and Mark) and four great-grandchildren (Clara, Oliver, Alice and Molly).

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hebron, Oakwood Village for their care of Ruth over the last several years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Resurrection Chapel, Oakwood Village, 6225 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin. Memorial gifts may be made to the United Church of Beloit, 657 Bluff Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511.
