Ruth Baseler

Madison - Ruth Baseler, age 96, died peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Oakwood West. She was born on June 8, 1921 to Carl and Olga (Fritz) Mardorf in Sumner, Iowa.

Ruth graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA in 1942, with a BA in music. She taught in public schools, as well as giving private lessons for many years. In 1945, Ruth married Rev. George Baseler. In his ministry, they served congregations in Gibson City, IL, Clinton, IA, Cashmere, WA, San Francisco, CA, Denver, CO, Oaks, OK, and Amboy, IL.

Ruth is survived by her 4 children, Rev. James (Peggy) Baseler of Toms Brook, VA, Dorothy (Carlos) Carvalho of Pittsburg, CA, Lois (Julie Hetzel) Baseler of Middleton, and Rev. John (Rev. Charlotte) Strecker-Baseler of Armena, Alberta, Canada; her 5 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1981; and her grandson, Eric Carvalho in 2011.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd. in Madison, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place next to her husband at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison, WI 53711; or Wartburg College, 100 Wartburg Blvd, Waverly, IA 50677.

She expressed her strong faith through music - teaching, singing, and playing piano and organ.
