Russell Braun

Madison - Russell M. Braun, age 84 of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at home. He was born on June 27, 1932, on a farm outside of Le Center, Minnesota, to parents Oscar and Muriel (Christian) Braun. He was the husband of Joan (Krantz) Braun for 62 years, father to Michael Braun (Julie), Scott Braun (Carol) and the late Kim Bond(Brad), and grandfather to Jacob & Mackenzie Braun, Michael, Tamra, and Kaitlin Braun, Melissa and Jennifer Meyer, great grandchildren Haylie Tornai and Gage Meyer.

Russell graduated from Mckinley High School, Le Center MN, in 1950 and South Eastern University, Washington D.C. in 1960. He returned to Minnesota to start the Minnesota League of Credit Unions. Shortly after he joined CUNA Mutual Insurance Group as District Manager operating from the Minneapolis/St. Paul office. A promotion to Regional Manager brought him to Madison, WI, in 1977. After 31 years of service, he retired from CUNA Mutual, Vice President of Field Operations. He remained connected with work friends and colleagues through the CUNA Mutual 25 Year Club.

Known for helping others, Russ volunteered with the Red Cross, published weekly church bulletins, served as an election judge, and was always there for family and friends. Russ was a long time member of Luther Memorial Church, Madison Wis. He enjoyed traveling, visiting 50 countries across the world, including Europe, Russia, China, the Holy Lands and even the Panama Canal. Hobbies included calligraphy, stained glass projects, gardening and reading.

Russ is survived by brothers Clinton (Margie) and Allen (Becky), sister Nancy Braun, sister-in-laws Emmie, Betty and Diane, and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Donald, Gordon, Richard and daughter Kim Bond.

Funeral service will be held this Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 11am, at LUTHER MEMORIAL CHURCH, 1021 UNIVERSITY AVENUE, MADISON, WISCONSIN 53715. Visitation will proceed the memorial service at 10am, at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial be made to Luther Memorial Church.
