Russell Alsmo

July 23, 1922 — November 11, 2014

Russell Andrew Alsmo, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton, where he had resided for the past ten years. Born to John Raymond and Martha (Ronnie) Alsmo, Russell farmed most of his life but in later years, was employed by Ken's Automotive in McFarland.

In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling and was always intrigued by airplanes. He was able to make two visits to the Experimental Aircraft show in Oshkosh and even had a personal note of greeting from Mr. Paul Poberezny, the 1953 founder of the EAA. Russell was a very strong and active member of the McFarland Historical Society, served on its Board, and was honored with a Lifetime membership in recognition of his commitment and service to the organization.

Russell is survived by his sisters Margaret (Ellestad Stolen), Madison; Ruth Raedel, Wisconsin Dells; brothers Kenneth (Marlene), Windsor; James (Dorothy), Madison; sisters-in-law Amy Alsmo, McFarland; Winnett Alsmo, DeForest; and brother-in-law, William Martinson, Poynette. Russell is also survived by eleven nephews, seven nieces, and a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Ruby; brothers Alden and Norman and sister Corrine, as well as by sisters Norma (age 6), Betty Jane (age 3), and brother, Kendall, (age 2). He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Curtis Ellestad, Lawrence Raedel, and Ingman Stolen and sister-in-law Shirley Martinson.

Funeral services for Russell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday November 17, 2014 at the McFarland Lutheran Church, 5529 Marsh Rd., McFarland, where he was a lifelong member, with Rev. Kelli Schmit presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his memory to McFarland Lutheran Church, Skaalen Home, Stoughton; the McFarland Historical Society or a charity of one's choice.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to all members of the staff at the Skaalen Home, for their loving care.
