Roslyn Kopelberg

August 2, 1926 — March 26, 2012

Madison - Roslyn Kopelberg {nee Lassen}, age 85, passed away after a prolonged illness on Monday March 26th at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. Roz was born on August 2nd, 1926 in New Orleans, LA. Her father Leon Lassen was a Civil Engineer for the Army Corp. of Engineers which had the family settling in many places throughout the country, including Mobile, AL, Jackson, MS and Gladewater TX to name a few. They eventually ended up in Madison when her father took a job with the Forest Products Lab.
She met Benny Kopelberg that "cute little sailor" while at services in Madison and they were married on March 31st, 1946 at the old Lorraine Hotel.
Roz had a beloved career as an Administrative Secretary for Plastic Surgery at U.W. Hospital for over 30 years and was an integral part of the department even long after her retirement. She was always an active member of congregation Beth Israel Center, and was active in the L'Chaim Jewish seniors program as well and loved her connections there.
Not one to sit still, Roz had many hobbies and loved keeping busy with her many outside interests. She was taking a Hebrew class, as well as volunteering at the Hadassah Collector's Corner resale shop. She also loved, playing Maj Jong ,knitting and sewing. She was the family's resident historian always planning reunions and was working on a book of her memoirs entitled "My Mothere Never Wore Blue Jeans". She was always the gracious southern hostess, loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will truly be greatly missed by all.
Roz was preceded in death by her husband Benny Kopelberg, her son Steven Kopelberg, a brother Raymond Lassen and her parents Eva Sabludowsky and Leon Lassen. She is survived by her daughter Lisa {Perry} Hoffman and son Mark {Barbara} Kopelberg. Roz has three grandchildren, Steven Hoffman, Emily {John} Kopelberg-Cuenca, Michael Kopelberg, and a great-grandson Jackson Cuenca. Roz also has many loved and cherished nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beth Israel Center or a charity of choice. May her memory be for a blessing.
