Sun Prairie - Rosemary Ecker (formerly Motelet), age 65, passed away on April 10, 2012, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. In the days before her death, she was surrounded in her home by all the people that loved her.
Rose was born on December 6, 1946, in Madison, the daughter of Jerome and Betty Motelet. She graduated from Madison West High School in Madison, and married Bill Ecker on June 7, 1969. In 1979, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Edgewood College, and followed that with a Masters of Education from National Louis University in 1984. She spent many happy years teaching third grade at De Forest Elementary School, Randall Elementary, and Frank Allis Elementary schools in Madison. Following her retirement in 2005, she spent as much time as she could with her "sunshine", her cherished grandson Cade. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and volunteering in classrooms and at church.
Rose is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bill; two children, Amy (Randy) Reisdorf of Waunakee, and Christopher Ecker of Sun Prairie; as well as grandchildren Cade, Justin, and Melissa. She is further survived by her mother and father, Jerome and Betty Motelet; siblings Mike (Rose) Motelet, Bill (Mary) Motelet, Ruth (Jim) Collins, Carol (Bob) Clark, Cathy (Gary) Bethke, , Margie (Kyle) Barry, Jeff Motelet, Jim (Laura) Motelet, Kris (Sam) Buscemi, Teresa (Tom) Beecher, Jill (Mike) Lilly, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Sue Ecker, brother-in-law Jim Hanson, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012, at ST. ALBERT THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2420 St. Albert Drive, in Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Terry Connors presiding. Friends and family may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Following the funeral, a celebration of Rose's life will be held at Doubledays in Cottage Grove. Visitation will be at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
The family would like to thank the caring doctors and staff of the UW Hospital, Carbone Cancer Center, and Agrace HospiceCare, as well as the many friends and family members that showed Rose how truly loved she was during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, which will be directed to organizations that Rose supported.
