Roscile C. Maier, age 101 of Waunakee, went home to the Lord our God surrounded by family at Home Again Assisted Living in Waunakee on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Roscile was born on April 15, 1923 to Hubert and Catherine (Laufenberg) Schulenberg in her home in Blue Mounds. At five years old her family moved to a farm in Cross Plains. At 21 she moved to Madison and lived in a single room of a house on Park St. She worked for 11 years at the Memorial Union on the UW campus.
Roscile met her future husband at a dance in Springfield Corners Dance Hall. She married Wilbert Maier on September 10, 1955 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. She discontinued her job to raise a family with Wilbert on their dairy and tobacco farm.
Roscile self taught herself to be an excellent cook and baker from the Betty Crocker cook book which is still used today. Some specialties were brownies, angel food cake for every birthday, and superb pies. She also enjoyed canning, bingo, her vegetable and flower garden, dancing and most importantly love for her family. If any of us needed advice and support, mom and dad were always there for us. Any help on the farm always had a home cooked meal and friendly conversation at the table.
