Ronald “Ron” Lee Knoll, age 87, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Madison, WI. Born on October 13, 1936, in Medford, WI, Ron was the son of Walter and Lucy Knoll.
Ron, known for his sense of humor, good nature, and love of sports, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Susan “Sue” Knoll, and his son-in-law, Bob Koch. He is survived by his three children: Cindy Koch, Lynda Cotter, and Scott Knoll, and two dear in-laws, Dan Cotter and Tami Ishida. Ron was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Justin, Kirsten, Lindsey, Natalie, Ian, Mia, and Addie.
A graduate of Medford High School, Ron furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. His successful career in the paper industry spanned several decades, where he began in sales at local distributor and worked his way up to becoming a senior executive at one of the largest paper companies in the country. Ron’s work led the family to live across the country, including Rib Mountain, WI; Los Angeles and San Francisco, CA; Toledo, OH; Farmington Hills, MI; and Guilford, CT. After retiring in Guilford, Ron enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was often found golfing, fishing, or traveling.
Ron was an avid sports enthusiast. He had a lifelong passion for football, basketball, golf, fishing, skiing, and baseball. A highlight of his early years was his time playing professional minor league baseball for the Detroit Tigers. Ron especially enjoyed following the local Wisconsin teams, both professional and college as well as coaching his kids' little league teams.
As a dedicated member of the Lutheran Church, Ron’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, his enduring love of athletics, and his steadfast devotion to his family, who could always count on him.
A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held on October 12, 2024 in Madison, Wisconsin.
