Ronald Hoffmaster

December 21, 1932 — January 20, 2018

Waunakee- Ronald D. Hoffmaster, age 85 of Waunakee, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at UW Hospital. He was born in Belleville, the son of Matthew and Ruby (Bennett) Hoffmaster.

Ron graduated from Belleville High School, class of 1951, and then joined the U.S. Army to serve proudly in the Korean War until he was wounded and honorably discharged. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal. Upon his return to Wisconsin, Ron attended UW Platteville and went on to work for Sub Zero Freezer Co. until his retirement in 1994. In 1955, Ron was joined in marriage to Meredith Hansen of Klevenville.

Ronald loved playing golf, euchre and watching the Packers and Badger football and basketball. He and Meredith attended as many games as they could over the years. Ronald cherished his time with family and friends especially those from Rex's Innkeeper who became like family as well as all of his card playing buddies at the VFW Posts 8483 & 7591. All of you were the reason he got himself up and out of the house every single day even after diagnosed with cancer.

Ronald is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Keen; sons, David (Donna) Hoffmaster, Brian (Susan) Hoffmaster and Bradley (Julianne) Hoffmaster; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) Rice, Amanda Keen, Luke Hoffmaster, Dana Hoffmaster, Max Hoffmaster, Amanda (Will) Nolan, Thor Crapp, Katie (Todd) Peterson, Maureen (Jon) Miner and Eric O'Neil. He is further survived by his three sisters; Deloris Kiefer, Donna Thompson and Deanna Tvedt as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Meredith and his brothers, Wendell and Wayne.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Winn Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Country Road Q in Waunakee. The service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church, 5763 Country Road Q in Waunakee. Rev Kirk Morledge will preside. Visitation before the funeral will begin at 10:00a.m. Following the service and internment, a reception will be held at Rex's Innkeeper, 301 N. Century Ave., Waunakee.

There are no words to express our deep gratitude to all who have helped care for dad. The staff at the Madison VA Hospital are some of the best in the nation and treated dad with respect and compassion for over 60 years. The team at Agrace Hospice; Joanna, Melanie, Kristen and Brenden. And finally to those friends who made sure dad got to his car safely, checked on him at home and made sure he knew that he was watched out for. He loved and appreciated you so very much.
