Ronald Bernard Byrnes, age 76, of Waunakee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, surrounded by the love and presence of his family. A devoted husband, father, papa, brother, veteran, and friend, Ron lived a life defined by loyalty, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors.
Family was at the heart of Ron’s life. He met the love of his life, Lynette “Spider” (Davidson), in August of 1971. They were united in marriage one year later on August 19, 1972, and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year. Together they raised two children—Patrick Byrnes of Waunakee and Stephanie (Eric) Ohlfs of New Berlin—and were blessed with four cherished grandsons: Riley and Logan Byrnes, and Ethan and Levi Ohlfs. Ron is further survived by his siblings Yvonne (Danny) Paul, Donnie (Doris) Byrnes, Mick (Dee) Byrnes, and Barb Byrnes; his brothers-in-law Larry (Jean) Davidson and Lon Davidson; and many other beloved relatives and friends.
Ron was born on January 13, 1949, in Plain, to Joseph “Bernie” and Virginia (Nachreiner) Byrnes. He grew up in Waunakee and called it home for his entire life. A 1967 graduate of Waunakee High School, Ron went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the Waunakee Legion Post 360 and served as Commander from 1999 to 2000. Ron also served for over 25 years as Co-Chair of the Waunafest Legion Beer Tent and as Sergeant of Arms for the Legion Honor Guard.
Ron spent his career in the printing industry, working for Rock Tenn (formerly Eastex Packaging) for 25 years before owning and operating R.B.'s Printing, Inc. for 21 years. Additionally, he and Spider ran a DJ business in the 1990s, entertaining crowds as the unforgettable duo “Rockin’ Ronnie and Spinnin’ Spider.”
Ron’s happiest moments were often spent outdoors—hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, Harley riding or relaxing and drinking a “moose” around the campfire at his beloved cabin in Phillips, Wisconsin. It was there that he found peace, connection, and countless memories with family and friends. A lifelong Wisconsin sports fan, Ron cheered passionately for the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and UW Badgers, never missing a chance to root for his teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Virginia Byrnes; parent-in-laws, Leonard and Louise Davidson; and his infant daughter, Kelly Byrnes.
Ron will be remembered for his sense of humor, the stories he shared, and the love he poured into those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec.20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. A reception will follow at the Waunakee Legion Hall.
