Ron Edward Boylan

Ron Edward Boylan, age 46, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, following a courageous battle with colon cancer. It was apparent how loved Ron was by the parade of visitors who filled his home. He was born December 3, 1964 in Janesville. He started his career in law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy and worked as a Correctional Officer in Rock County. In 1985, he was honored to join the Dane County Sheriff's Office where he met his mentors, protegees and many friends while working for this fine organization. Ron completed his MBA from Upper Iowa University in 2003 in preparation for his ultimate goal of becoming the Dane County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy. In 2006, Ron's goal was realized and he was committed to his work until the end of his life. Ron was a dedicated member of the Mazomanie United Church of Christ, the Mazomanie Lions Club, and was presently serving on the Town Board of Supervisors. Ron was a tireless volunteer dedicating one week of each summer, for 28 years, to Badger Boys State. In addition, his volunteer time included church functions, the local food pantry and organizing Wild West Days in Mazomanie. Ron is survived by his partner of 24 years, Michael Meland; faithful companion Ruby; sister Cheryl Wright; brothers, Randy, Rick (Laurae), mother-in-law, Marge Meland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Doreen Meland; nephews Danny, David, Jason, Philip, Jim, Tim, Tom, Nick and Will; nieces Jenni and Olivia; and many, many friends and colleagues. A visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until 6:30 pm on Monday, January 24, 2011 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI   53705.   A Memorial Celebration of Ron's Life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1609 University Ave., Madison, WI 53706, with Pastor Carolyn Kennedy, of Mazomanie United Church of Christ officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Mazomanie United Church of Christ, 109 W. Hudson Street, Mazomanie WI 53560.
