Roland Borchers

Madison-Roland ""Pat"" Borchers passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 27, 2010 after a brief battle with leukemia. Pat was born on September 26, 1930 in Madison, the son of Hilbert & Ella (Tofsrud) Borchers. He attended Sunnyside Grade School and graduated from Madison East High School in 1948. Pat was joined in marriage to Rosemary Clemmons on November 11, 1950 for 551/2 years until her death on May 26, 2006. Pat worked at the Celon Company for two years before serving with the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Pat joined the CL Swanson Corporation in April of 1953 and retired in June of 1996 after 43 years of service. He also spent 5 1/2 years at the Dane County Airport in security before retiring for good in 2002. Pat especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his friends and family, dancing, the AA program, his friends at the Hospice group, and working outdoors in his yard. He is survived by his children, Donald of Madison, Julie Ellingson of Deerfield, Patrick (Patty) of Racine, Pamela Burn of Centerville, MN and William (Suzy) of Madison: nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Joseph) McDonald and Virginia Byzinski; special friend Maurine Ensign; other relatives and friends. Additionally to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte (Norman) Nelson, son-in-law, Michael Ellingson and grandson Travis Ellingson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home East, Madison with Rev. Dean Kirst officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with full military rites will be held in Highland Memory Garden, Cottage Grove. The family would like to extend a special thank you to HospiceCare for their compassionate care of Pat and support for the family.
