Stoughton - Roger Dean Chellevold, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2015. He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on March 6, 1944 to Herman and Leona (Thompson) Chellevold. He married Janet Marshall on August 26, 1967.
Roger graduated from Richland Center High School in 1962 and later attended the UW La Crosse and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He received his Master's Degree from the UW Madison in curriculum and instruction. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. Roger spent 32 years teaching in the Madison Metropolitan School District at Schenk Middle School and Madison East High School. He received the Bassett Award for excellence in education in 1986 from the Madison School District.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Janet; daughter, Lisa (Brian) Gutche and son, Erik (Jen) Chellevold; Grandchildren; Taylor and Tanner Gutche, and Emma and Connor Chellevold; brother, Don Chellevold, sister-in law, Karen (Jim) Cooper, brother-in-law, David (Shirley) Marshall, brother-in-law, Denny (Kristy) Marshall, sister-in-law, Susie (Eugene) Bullis, brother-in-law, Richard (Wendy) Marshall, sister-in-law Diane (Larry) Treadway, sister-in-law Julie (Todd) Dosch, sister-in-law Heidi (Craig) Tolmie, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger had many friends who meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a past president of the Stoughton Lion's Club. While his children were Stoughton Norwegian Dancers he was very active in the parent group. Roger enjoyed the time he spent volunteering on Syttende Mai committees, especially the parade committee.
Roger spent the last years of his life courageously fighting Parkinson's disease and dementia. Prior to his illness he loved golfing, playing bridge, camping and boating. After retirement, Roger fulfilled his dream of owning a Harley Davidson and enjoyed many road trips with friends. Roger was an avid runner and was proud of completing four Syttende Mai races. One of his favorite things to do was going on trips with his family and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the UW Neurology department, Dr. Brad Beinlich, Nancy Ninman and Steve. Thanks to Kelli Weichert from the VA for all her support and care.
Roger was always a person who celebrated life to the fullest. Now it is time to celebrate his life! We will have a celebration of life open house on Tuesday, March 17 from 11-2 at the lower level of Banushi's Bar and Grill in Stoughton, Wisconsin at 800 Nygaard Street. Come and join us for lunch and share stories about Roger.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to be put towards a scholarship for a future educator.
