Rodney 'Rod' C. Monson

February 16, 1935 — January 20, 2011

Rodney C. Rod' Monson, age 75, went home to be with the Lord that he loved on Thursday, January 20, 2011.   He was a lifelong resident of Stoughton, born there on February 16, 1935, a son of Melvin O. and Gladys (Roum) Monson.   He married Theresa Terry' Ballweg on March 22, 1956.   Terry preceded him in death on July 6, 2001.   He married Carol Kluever on November 11, 2005.   Carol preceded him in death on April 27, 2008.   Rod served his country in the Air National Guard.   He worked as a Real Estate Broker, and later as a Taxicab Driver in Stoughton.   Rod was a people person, and loved being with people.   He was a regular at the Sunrise Restaurant, enjoyed playing cards, especially double deck pinochle.   Rod also enjoyed fishing and visits to the State Park.   He was a member of Grace Church, a man of strong faith, and was involved in several Bible study groups.   He is survived by his children, Sue (Steve) Nygaard, Pete (Laura) Monson, and David (Cheryl) Monson; a step daughter, Kathy (Russ) Beloungy; grandchildren, Josh Monson, Robert Monson, Tom Nygaard, and Mallory (Erick) Sperloen; step-grandchildren, Deb (Matt) Shaw, Mark (Becky Van Dusen) Beloungy, Josh Beloungy, Brian (Becky) Beloungy; and David Beloungy; 3 great grandchildren, a sister, Mary (Don) Derr; many beloved in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.   In addition to his two wives, Rod was preceded in death sister-in-law, Eva Wells and brother-in-law, Dick Ballweg; a niece, Janice Ballweg; and an infant brother.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with the Rev. Roger Olsen officiating.   Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery South.   A luncheon reception at the Stoughton VFW Hall will follow burial.   The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 24 from 4:00 to 7:00pm, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.   Special thanks to the staff of Nazareth house, and St. Mary's hospital for their love and care.
