Robin F. Harris, 89, passed away peacefully in Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by family.
Born in Brighton, England, and raised on the coast of Wales, Robin dedicated his life to science, education, and environmental stewardship. He earned his Ph.D. in Soil Science and Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he served as a professor and chairman in the Department of Soil Science for over three decades. His research focused on microbial ecology, bioremediation, and environmental toxicology. He was an active member and leader in multiple scientific societies and continued contributing to soil and environmental education as Professor Emeritus.
Beyond the lab, Robin embraced life with curiosity and adventure. With his wife Inge, he explored the world by foot and bike, cherished family traditions and was always happiest on a trail or around the table with those he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, known for his wisdom, thoughtfulness, fierce loyalty, and unwavering presence in the lives of those he cared for.
He is survived by his wife Inge of 63 years; their daughters Karen (Greg) Pletta, Ilka (Steve) Hoffins, and Tanya (George) Coller; and grandchildren Evan (Hannah) Hoffins, Alex Pletta, Emily Hoffins, Julia Pletta, Isabel Coller, and Harris Coller.
