Madison--Roberta Ann Larsen, "Bertie", passed away on April 20, 2013, at the age of 89, at Oakwood Village East Memory Care. She was born to Edith "Hope" and Herman Luers at Washington, Iowa on April 9, 1924. She earned a BA in Art Education at the University of Iowa and an MA in Art Education at UW-Madison. Starting in 1946 she dedicated herself to a career of teaching art in the Madison School District.
She married her former husband, James A. Larsen, on Dec. 31, 1947, the father of her two children. She is survived by her two daughters Kirstie Larsen (Fred Bouwman) and Wendy Egan (Matthew); her grandsons Myles Burgett and Ken Burgett (Aimee) and two great grandchildren. The youngest of three sisters, Bertie is also survived by Mary Statler and Jean Allen (Phil) and four nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and long-time friend Robert Brooks.
Bertie enjoyed her family and friends; extensive world travel; painting landscapes, abstracts and portraits; building her beloved Lake Wisconsin vacation home and caring for her feline companions.
A memorial service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3601 Speedway Road, Madison on May 2 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. A gathering of friends and family will occur at 4:30 p.m. and the memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m.
