Laffey, Roberta E. " Bert"
On July 10, 1951, the world truly became a better place. Roberta Ellen Laffey was born in Quincy, Mass, and after many moves around the country, chose Madison for her home and career. Roberta passed away in the devoted care of St. Mary's Hospital on Thanksgiving evening, November 27, 2014, 25 years to the day after her beloved father, John Edward Laffey. She is predeceased also by mother, Pauline F. (Heon) Laffey, and siblings Andrea E. Laffey, and Christopher J. Laffey. She is remembered by sister, Jessica Laffey, nephews, Zachary and John Ulven and brother-in-law, Juel Ulven, as well as friends and extended family.
Bert had a lifelong love of learning, and a mind that absorbed and was fascinated by everything in life. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1973 and continued her education formally and informally until the last month of life. Roberta recently retired from a successful and fulfilling career of more than 30 years at Kraft Foods. Through Kraft, Roberta befriended many and was involved in innumerable activities, including her many joyful seasons of participating in Kraft golf leagues. She encouraged her much loved family and friends to become involved in her many adventures: birding, gourmet camping, music festivals, theater, sports, radio shows, photography, and amazing crafts of all kinds. She was dedicated to her Smart Recovery volunteering and mentoring. Bert was a "fearless leader", living life to the fullest. She had a hysterical sense of humor, yet was always kind, bringing out the best in all who knew her. She adored her friends and family, and knew that she too was loved.
