Robert Wilson

Robert "Red" Wilson, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Friday August 8, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Red was born March 7, 1929 in Milwaukee, to the late James and Vesta (Meier) Wilson. He married Vera Koepke on September 9, 1950. He attended Milwaukee Washington High School and is a 1950 graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Business. While at Wisconsin he played baseball and football, and was the Big Ten MVP in 1949 in Football. Bob played professional baseball as a catcher in the 1950's with teams such as the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers before his retirement at the end of the 1960 season. He then had a career in banking and finance for over 30 years. Red was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed and attended all Wisconsin athletic events. Bob had many friends and enjoyed participating in the "W" club as well as other philanthropic groups. He also was a talented artist and poet. He was a loving husband and was devoted to his sweetheart Vera for 64 years. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa with a big heart and an infectious sense of humor.
Red is survived by his wife of 64 years Vera, son Jim (Beth) and their 3 children Bobby, Billy and Abby, and his daughter Jean (Michael) Englade and their 3 children Rachel, Claire and Nick, and is further survived by granddaughters Valerie and Natalie and a great grandson Daniel. He is preceded in death by his son Dan.
Funeral Mass will be at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 Owen Dr. at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday August 13, 2014 with Msgr. Kenneth Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of the Mass on Wednesday at the church.
