Robert "Bob" Schwartz, of Madison passed away on May 3, 2017 with his family by his side after an extended illness. He was born in Madison on May 11, 1933 to Sam and Rose Schwartz. Bob attended Washington Elementary School, and graduated from Madison Central High School in 1950 as the Senior class Valedictorian.
While attending Pharmacy School at the University of Wisconsin, Bob met his future wife, Sara "Sandy" Radbil in an undergraduate French class, and they were married in Milwaukee in 1954. Upon graduating, Bob began a lifelong career as a Pharmacist with Schwartz Pharmacy in Madison. He was also a well-respected Clinical Instructor for many years at the UW School of Pharmacy, working with many Students, and faculty. Bob received the Albert E. Rosica Jr. award from the American College of Apothecaries for excellence in Pharmacy education.
Bob was a well-known Madison area musician. He played Trumpet in many venues, from the Monty Hacker Band and the Bill Terry Sextet, to his later ventures with the American Jazz Express and Ritz Plaza Ballroom Orchestra. He was a founding member of the Retro Swing Band in Madison as well. Some additional enjoyable hobbies included Black and White Photography, several of Bob's photos won awards.
Bob was a lifelong Badgers fan, with season tickets for football, basketball and hockey games.
In retirement, Bob and Sandy enjoyed some memorable trips, along with spending time with their children and grandchildren and volunteer work with Jewish Social Services and Beth Israel Center. Bob moved to Capitol Lakes Retirement Community in 2012 upon the death of Sandy, and enjoyed several good years of activities and friendships within the community.
Bob is survived by his three children, Larry and Barbara Schwartz, Fred and Sylvia Schwartz, and Steve Schwartz. He is further survived by three grandchildren, Stephanie, Sydney and Alex Schwartz and his Sister, Libby Schwartz and her husband Bob Hanlon. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 5th at 1030AM at Cress Funeral Home in Madison. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Any memorial donations should please be made to Jewish Social Services of Madison.
