Madison - Robert P. Roth, age 93, of Madison and formerly of Wausau, WI and Fort Myers, FL died peacefully at Attic Angel in Madison of natural causes on November 16, 2013. Bob was preceded in death by his brother Raymond and his parents. Survived by his wife Margaret of 64 years, daughters Mary Roth Burns of Rhinelander, WI, and Patty Roth of Madison, WI, son Bill (Valla) Roth of Plymouth, MN, granddaughters Sarah (Mike) Wu of Buffalo Grove, IL, Holly Burns of New York, NY, Nicole Roth of Cedar Rapids, IA, grandson Brian (Joanna) Roth of Minneapolis, MN, and two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Danny Wu.
Bob was born in Chicago, IL on February 17, 1920 to Nicholas and Mary Roth. He spent his childhood in Chicago. After high school, he was proud to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the 434th Bomb Squadron of the 12th Bomb Group, spending four years in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and India. After the war, Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a major in Accounting in 1949. He married Margaret (Peg) Brobst in November, 1949, and eventually settled in Wausau, WI, where they raised their three children. Bob was an auditor for Wipfli Ullrich accounting firm in Wausau until becoming a co-owner of CTL Company there. His association with CTL and the people who worked there gave him endless satisfaction; he relished their various connections within the community. After retiring in 1985, he spent much of his time playing tennis and golf in Fort Myers, FL, while remaining an avid Badgers and Packers fan. He thoroughly enjoyed being with family and friends, and will always be remembered for his boundless love of piano playing, and unpretentious sense of humor. He was also known for establishing the 434th Bomb Squadron reunion, which still meets annually. One of the most delightful things about Bob was his great fondness for all desserts (especially if served with lavish amounts of whipped cream). He made friends easily, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
