Waunakee/Westport

Robert W. Oncken, age 86 of Waunakee/DeForest passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022 at Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg, WI.

Born February 16, 1936 in Madison, WI, the son of George W. and Beatrice (Alsmo) Oncken. He married Kathleen Anne Young on August 17th, 1963 in Westport, WI.

Lived all his life in the Waunakee/Westport area.  Graduated from Waunakee High School, worked briefly at The Canning Factory in Waunakee before starting at Oscar Mayer in Madison, where he was a loyal worker for 47 years.  He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard until he married Kathleen.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Madison until the local lodge closed.

He grew up and lived most of his life on a small farm in the Town of Westport, where they occasionally raised Angus Beef cattle and chickens.  He planted crops until the late 1970, using his beloved old Alis Chambers tractor.

He was an avid vegetable gardener and animal lover. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing on the Oscar Mayer softball team, and was the anchorman for a local tug-o-war team.  He looked forward to his part time work at the Alliant Energy Center (Dane County Memorial Coliseum) as a parking and loading dock attendant.

Bob and his family enjoyed camping during the 1970s and '80s, often traveling and exploring along the way.  He loved traveling, whether it was a car ride around the area or a flight to another state.

He was a very social man who spent quite a bit of time at the Waunakee Senior Center for lunch, playing Euchre, and joining them on day trips. He spent the last couple years enjoying life at Parkside Assisted Living in DeForest.

He loved following the Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Milwaukee Brewers.

Survivors include his beloved daughter, Sharon (Jeff) Kaufman, God-daughter Alice (Rod) Retrum, sister-in-law Carole (Doug) Cronin, and sister-in-law JoEllen (George) Mulder Oncken, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, brother George and his wife Barbara, and parents George and Beatrice.
