Madison, WI- Robert Scot Cullen, passed away on June 26, 2025. He was born on September 17th, 1948 on a dairy farm in Harmony township of Rock County Wisconsin to Robert Dean and Elizabeth Jane Cullen.
Scot started school in a one room schoolhouse in Harmony Township. He spent his youth working on the family farm. Scot was involved with the Harmony 4-H club, Rock County Band and the youth group of the Rock Prairie Presbyterian church. He graduated from Milton Union high school in 1966 where he was involved in band, science club, choir, baseball and football. After beginning college at the University of Rock County, Scot received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the UW-Madison and continued on there to receive his master's degree. On July 19, 1975, he married Brenda Sue Legler, together they had four children. After graduation he worked for the Wisconsin Public Service commission until his retirement in 2014.
Scot was an active member of the Salem UCC in Verona, involved in the Barry Robinson choir. He loved golfing and would be out on the course when time permitted, and the weather was over 50 degrees. Scot passed the seasons turkey hunting, and ice fishing on the lakes around Madison. He was a founding member of the Couznofskis softball and basketball team and a pillar of the Madison rec community for over 30 years. Scot was a huge supporter of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and activities, rarely ever missing a game or performance. He coached youth soccer and baseball for the better part of 12 years and introduced many neighborhood (Hill Farms) kids to soccer, who would go on to play through their high school years. He would regularly arrive at the soccer fields with 6-10 players in the “panther mobile”, ensuring all had a ride to the game. Scott was a loyal fan and season ticket holder to the UW Women's Volleyball team along their road to glory.
Scot was our “calm to life’s craziness”, and was always there for anyone who needed support, especially his family. He will be dearly missed and hope that happy memories carry on with those who had the opportunity to spend time with him.
Scot is survived by his children, Jamie (Matt), Ryan (Cellanie), Nathan (Darcy) and Katie (Daniel); grandchildren, Morgan, Maya, Jordan, Adeline, Leo, Liam, and Bryeton; great grandchild, Emery; his former wife, Brenda; brother, Richard (Kathy); and sister, Diane (Dave); and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Betty; and brother, Larry.
Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Salem UCC, 502 Mark Drive, Verona, with The Rev. Dr. Phil Hobson officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
If desired, memorials may be made in Scot's name to the UW Carbone Cancer Center of Madison or a local youth organization.
Special thank you to Dr. Monica Patel and her medical team at the UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison for their care and treatment.
