Robert "Bob" Conley

Robert “Bob” Conley (age 67) of Waunakee, WI passed away surrounded by his five loving children on the afternoon of April 13, 2025.

Bob was born on November 9, 1957, in Kewanee, IL to Mary Jane (Streicher) and Howard Elwyn “Elly” Conley. He married his wife, Joan Mary Steffensmeier, on June 2, 1984, in West Point, IA.

Bob graduated from Knox College with a bachelor’s degree in “Political Science and Government” and later earned his MBA from William & Mary. He retired in 2020 after building a distinguished career – with over 35 years at MGIC – marked by his expertise, strong relationships, and work ethic.

As a father, he was a steady presence and a shoulder to lean on. Through his quiet guidance, he taught his children to live with integrity, to honor commitments, and to laugh (especially at oneself) through life’s challenges.

More than anything, Bob was a man with a clever sense of humor and a big heart. His compassion was evident in his generous support of several wildlife and conservation organizations with a particular soft spot for birds. He loved golf, music, and the family dog Little Bit.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joanie. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Robert M Conley (Lauren Roberts) with daughter, Evelyn and son, Owen; Christopher Conley; Katelyn Conley (Brad Bartlett) with daughter, Ellington “Ellie”; Charles Conley (Alexa Carl); William Conley; and his siblings and their families: Lois Jean Annett, Stanley (Pat) Kazmerski, Tim (Lori) Conley, and Terry (Noreen) Conley.

Per Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest next to his father at Hopeland Cemetery in Buda, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Bob’s favorite organizations: Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon Society, or ASPCA.
