Verona - Robert Evan Campbell, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2013 at his home, which he built. He was born on Dec. 12, 1928 in Madison, the son of Meirl E. and Myrtle B. Campbell. He married Patricia Joyce (Bryant) Campbell on May 6, 1950.
Robert graduated from Madison West High School in 1947. After school Robert worked as a carpenter until retirement at the age of 63. At his home he had a game farm where he raised pigeons, pheasants, ducks, geese, goats, peacocks, rabbits and Patrick, the pot-bellied pig. Robert built unique homes for all his animals including a two-story pigeon coop. Since early childhood he owned and raised pigeons. He was a member of the Madison 4 Lakes Pigeon Club; he entered his birds in shows throughout the Midwest winning many awards. Robert was an avid gardener. He spent many hours in his garden where you would find beautiful flowers, fountains, rock formations and a Koi pond that he designed. Robert was also well-known in his neighborhood for his extensive holiday decorations.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and his wife Patricia.
Robert is survived by his children Karen (Dann) Juse of Hernando, FL., William (Rebekah) Campbell of Waupaca, Debra (Virgil) Schulenburg of Prairie du Sac, Pamela (Steve Smith) Campbell of Fitchburg, former daughter-in-law Elaine (Mark) Shimniok of Baraboo. He is also survived by five grandchildren Jennifer, Danny, Jim, Lindsey and Rebecca; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and his loyal companion, Stacy, the cat.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
