Madison- Bergman, Robert "Bob" L. passed away on September 7, 2014, with his loving daughter at his side. Robert was born March 10, 1925, to Ernest and Luella (Thorhaug) Bergman and was a lifelong resident of Madison where he attended and graduated from East High School. After high school, he served in the US Army Air Corps for three years during WWII where he was stationed at Bergstrom Field in Austin, TX as well as overseas with the 311 Infantry Regiment,78th Infantry Division with the first infantry troops to cross the Rhine River in the Ludendorf Bridge at Remagen Germany in March of 1945. After serving his country, Robert worked for 40 years for Ohio Medical Products, presently now GE Healthcare in Madison where he retired from in 1986.
Robert golfed on the company league for 30 years, was presented with an award for being a Super Sub and follower of the Space Shuttle Program in which he donated his 30 years of scapbooks to the space museum in Titusville, FL. Robert also enjoyed playing Euchre and Bingo and was an avid train buff as well as attending his church, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Madison. Due to his dedication and love for his country, he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 8483 as well the American Legion Post No. 501.
Robert is preceded in death by the love of his life, Ardys Bergman, whom he was married to for 58 years along with his brother, Donald Bergman and brothers and sisters-in-law; Daniel Flicek, Don Papcke, Ray and Ella Volk, June and Frank Trapino, Ronald Hagen, and Marietta Schroder. Robert is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Janis L. Bergman; one brother, Russ (Mildred) Bergman; one sister, Dorothy Flicek, his brothers and sisters-in-law; Jeanette Bergman, Marilynn (Jerome) Suter, Betty Hagen, Pat Papcke, Richard (Sue) Hagen, as well as many nieces and nephews. A special friend, Dick Marsh, also survives.
A visitation will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI. 53704 on Monday, September 15, 2014, from 10am to 11am with services at 11am with Pastor Michael Erdman presiding. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
