Robert James Benzing

Sun Prairie – Robert “Bob” J. Benzing, age 63, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born July 10, 1960, in Hartford to Francis and Annetta (Schmitz) Benzing. 

Bob was a skilled carpenter who valued perfectionism in his work. He always had a vision when it came to dreaming up the next house plan or creating custom projects for the people in his life. Bob was known for being an impressive innovator and problem-solver, reliably providing solutions wherever he was needed. He used every opportunity for a teaching moment to share his wisdom and knowledge; doing things the right way was very important to Bob. It was evident that he found honor in being a provider for his loved ones, by the way he selflessly and generously gave his time, skills, and resources. His pride and joy were his five children, who adored him as a very intentional, loving father. Bob was equally as passionate about his faith in Jesus, with a desire to share the gospel and be well-involved with his church family. He appreciated the simple life, driving country roads, using his baking skills, and expressing his goofy sense of humor. Bob was always complimented on his friendly demeanor and smiling face. He touched the lives of so many people, that the loss will be felt deeply; but we rejoice in knowing that he is at home and at peace in heaven, and that the significant impact he made on our lives will be carried with us always.

Bob is survived by his children: Casandra Benzing, Mesa, AZ; Katrese Benzing, Mount Horeb, WI; Steven Benzing, Henderson, NV; Randy Benzing, Mount Horeb, WI; and Vanessa Benzing, Phoenix, AZ; all whom he shared with former spouse: Theresa (Benzing) Robey. He is also survived by 15 siblings: Mary Benzing, Le Claire, IA; Allen (Linda) Benzing, Flower Mound, TX; Bonnie (Kevin) Pfaff, Melrose, WI; Daniel (Linda) Benzing, Sparta, WI; David (Pamela) Benzing, Sparta, WI; Peter (Pamela) Benzing, Rockland, WI; Paul (Susan) Benzing, Holmen, WI; Anthony Benzing, Sparta, WI; Don (Michelle) Benzing, Mindoro, WI; Janice (Frank) Frankini, New Smyrna Beach, FL; Raymond (Christine) Benzing, Mindoro, WI; Loraine (James) Spaeth, Sparta, WI; Linda (Gary) Svoboda, Sparta, WI; Timothy (Shelley) Benzing, Sparta, WI; Tammy (Steven) Hillyer, The Villages, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Annetta (Schmitz) Benzing; brother: Bernard Benzing; sister-in-law Ruth Benzing; and nephew: Bradley Benzing.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, July 15, 2024, at MADISON BAPTIST CHURCH, 2323 Portage Rd. Madison with Pastor Mike Weiss presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the noon service at the church on Monday. A luncheon will follow the funeral at the church. Burial will be at East Blue Mounds Cemetery in Blue Mounds at approximately 3:00 PM.
