CROSS PLAINS-Robert C. Arthur, age 79, passed away February 10, 2026 after a long illness. Bob was born on November 8, 1946 to former Dane County District Attorney Robert W. and Irma (Conrad) Arthur. He attended St. Rays and St, James elementary schools and met his soul mate and future wife Mary Bowar in All City Band in 6th grade. He graduated from Edgewood High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of the US Army Reserve headquartered at the 44th General Hospital. He married the love of his life on August 26, 1967.
Bob loved his work. Using his natural architectural creativity, he was successful in his remodeling business, restoring Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Oak Park and Hyde Park, IL, as well as remodeling projects in NC and many residences in the Shorewood and Maple Bluff communities. Custom designed cabinetry, furniture and pieces were delivered to homes in CA and Japan. It is thought that if he was just starting his business, HGTV would be knocking on his door.
Family, friends and clients were quick to acknowledge his charming personality and wood working talents. A quiet, soft-spoken and gentle soul, Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He will be remembered for his big smile, his loving energy and his generosity of spirit. His easy-going and witty personality made him a master of chill before chill became a thing. As someone once commented, “What’s not to like about the guy”.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; sister Carolyn (Ed) Krasnowski; sons, Paul (Jude) of California and Luke (Susanne) of Iceland. He was a loving grandfather to Isabelle, Connor and Evelina. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other family and friends He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William.
A Memorial prayer service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705, followed by a luncheon and celebration of Bob’s life from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm.
